The Vegan Kind Beauty Box November 2014

November 19, 2014

tvkbb2

When Gem and I were at the West Midlands Vegan Festival a few weeks back, the lovely people at The Vegan Kind were excited about the launch of their quarterly beauty box. Having already picked up the first one, I couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to subscribe! This box was delivered along with my #TVK13 which you can read about here. This latest box will be released quarterly and will contain a host of Vegan cosmetics – perfect for the cruelty free beauty enthusiast!

Here’s the first ‘official’ The Vegan Kind Beauty Box;

tvkbb2-organic-surge

Organic Surge Million Dollar Balm – 30ml (RRP £14.99)

I seem to be building quite a collection of Organic Surge products as of late. This glorious multi-tasking skin soother can be applied to dry areas anywhere, which is great for the looming mid-winter “dry-patch”. The balm is very thick and does take some coaxing out the jar, but once melted a little between fingers, covers the skin nicely. I’ve used this a few times on my elbows and it seems to have done the trick. My only bad point is the scent. It’s not bad, it’s just not pleasant and a little clinical which does remind me a little of bathing patient’s in an array of medicinal moisturisers. Despite this I have every faith in this being a nice nifty dry patch banishing tool for the heating infused winter months.

tvkbb2-skin-support

Freya Luna Skin Support Facial Steam Bath – 5g (RRP £1.56)

Wow this sachet smells amazing. What a lovely unexpected surprise though and something totally new and different for me to try. This beautiful fragrant sachet contains a blend of lavender and chamomile – simply empty into a bowl of hot water and use to steam your face for 8-10 minutes. Now all I need is 10 minutes piece and quiet without a puppy charging around!

www.freyaluna.com

tvkbb2-happy-feet

Freya Luna Happy Feet Footbath – 40g (RRP £4)

Similar to the above facial steam bath and equally as fragrant, this sachet contains enough for 2-3 foot-baths. I’ve been thinking about getting a new foo spa for a while, so perhaps this will spur me on (not that I need any encouragement to shop). I can’t help but hope this is going to be a miracle cure for the morning after a Dakesis show whilst I’ve been stuck on my feet.

www.freyaluna.com

tvkbb2-b

B. Lip and Cheek Tint in “prom” – (RRP £7.99)

This isn’t my first B. lip product and the ones I currently have stashed in my collection are all pretty nice. They apply well and longevity wise, they definitely stand up to the task. This lip and cheek colour is just as great to apply, although not usually a colour I would go for I reckon I can pull off a dusky pink shade on my lips. As for a cheek colour, it’s a little thick and difficult to blend when applied but a perfect color for blush – perhaps I just need a little more time and patience to perfect it!

www.bisforbeautiful.co.uk

tvkbb2-candy-cane

Fairy Pants Candy Cane Lip Balm – (RRP £3.99)

I am absolutely head over heels for this lip balm. What better way than to bring some Christmas cheer (it’s not that far away now beauties!) than with this minty vanilla balm. Not only does it smell absolutely amazing, but it makes your lips feel so soft and beautiful. This is definitely taking pride of place in my handbag. I’ve already got my eyes on their banoffee pie and sticky toffee pudding lip balm!

www.fairypants.co.uk

Overall I’m quite thrilled with the contents of this box, although there are a few things I wouldn’t normally use, I’m quite excited about trying something new and having some pamper time. (One can but hope anyway).

If you’d like t0 try The Vegan Kind beauty box, you can do so here for just £15 every 3 months plus p&p. Have you subscribed to this box? What are your thoughts? Are you thinking of subscribing soon? If so, we’d love to hear your thoughts below.

The Vegan Kind #TVK13 November 2014 Box Review

November 13, 2014

tvk13

So this month is officially The Vegan Kinds birthday and after catching up with the lovely people behind it at the West Midlands Vegan Festival a few weeks ago, it looks like there is no sign of them stopping yet! A massive Happy Birthday to them and all the best cruelty free wishes for their future! For those unfamiliar, The Vegan Kind is a monthly cruelty 100% Vegan box filled with yummy edible goodies and at least one lifestyle product. Each month a donation from each box is given to a charity chosen by subscribers. They’ve also recently launched The Vegan Kind beauty box which will run quarterly so keep your eyes peeled for my review of the latest TVKBB since the postman was kind enough to deliver my boxes together!

This month’s box:

tvk-13-considerit

Considerit Salted Caramel – 65g (RRP £2.50)

My eyes lit up when I lifted this out of the box. I’m a massive fan of caramel and although i’m fully aware of the dangers of consuming too much sugar, I really couldn’t give a monkeys when it comes to having a whole pot full of the lovely gooey stuff! This month’s recipe card also features this as an ingredient and The Vegan Kind chaps recommend drizzling over vegan ice cream, spooning into hot chocolate or straight out of the tub (erm, yes please!). Despite my overwhelming urge to shot this pot, I’m going to get into the festive spirit and share this with my Vegan friends during Christmas time!

Go to www.consideritchocolate.com for oodles of caramel (and chocolate lots of chocolate).

tvk13-primal-bar

The Primal Kitchen Coconut & Macadamia Paleo Bar – 45g (RRP £1.59)

I’m a fan of Coconut & Macadamia, but a little less into raisins and dates (those of you who read my TVK reviews regularly, will already know my loathing for these ingredients). Having said that I have a collection of friends who are very ethical in what they choose to put in their mouth so I’m pretty sure this will find a well deserved home after I’ve had a little nibble to make extra sure I won’t like it!

For more paleo products visit The Primal Kitchen.

tvk13-rebel-kitchen

Rebel Kitchen Orange Choc Mylk – 200ml (RRP £0.90)

The chocolate version of this was featured some boxes ago so I was pretty excited when I saw this month had brought us the Orange Chocolate flavour! The last Choco Mylk I indulged in was gorgeous so I have high hopes for this one and probably won’t be sharing this one!

Vist The Rebel Kitchen Website here.

tvk13-organic-surge

Organic Surge Awakening Shower Gel – 250ml (RRP £5.99)

Organic Surge Shower Gel is another previously featured product from one of my first boxes I think. It was truly amazing though so I imagine this will be no exception. When I last used this I felt so fresh and invigorated with zero skin irritations which is a huge bonus. This will take pride of place in my epic shower gel stash (yup, still going from last Christmas!)

There are lots more products over at Organic Surge.

tvk13-tenacre

Ten Acre How Chicken Soup Saved the Day Crisps – 40g (RRP £0.80)

Yet another brand that’s been previously featured, but I have to say, Chicken soup really did save the day. Usually I don’t indulge in any goodies from my box until after I’ve posted my blog, but on Monday evening Gem and I went to meet a friend in Birmingham City Centre (it’s best pointing out that Gem and I mostly live on the internet and rarely leave the house except to go to the gym/gigs these days). We had a few wines (9 glasses each in total … oops) and Tuesday morning I woke up with literally the worst hangover in the world. Everything I did … blinking, breathing, peeing, showering … made me very sick and I got to the point around mid day where my stomach was so empty, that my hunger pains were also making me feel sick. I called Brains from the bedroom to find the ten acre crisps in my latest TVK box stashed in the office and even though it took me about four hours to finish the packet, I managed to keep them down and they definitely helped me feel a bit better!

To stock up on some great hangover fixes, visit Ten Acre Crisps here.

tvk13-quinoa

Quinola Mothergrain Express Quinoa – 250g (RRP £2.55)

Quinoa seems to be quite a popular thing at the moment and I do enjoy switching up my usual rice and Bulgar wheat for this if I can pick up a good deal. (It’s expensive!) This is a very welcome addition to my kitchen cupboards as I’m always looking for quick things to throw together that aren’t ready meals. Theres quite a lot in this packet so I’ll be sharing it out and cooking up something adventurous.

Visit Quinola for your healthy Quinoa fix!

TVK13-cookie-fairy

#TVK13 Recipe Card

This month’s card is from The Vegan Cookie Fairy with a pumpkin spiced salted caramel hot chocolate. A wonderful recipe to test out the Considerit Salted Caramel. Subscribers also receive a lovely recipe binder to hold all their cards once they have subscribed for 6 month’s.

Despite this month’s box having a lot of products I’ve previously received, I really don’t mind. They are all different flavours/varieties and it’s nice to see some of these make a come back. Yet again another great box and a great way to kick off the end of their first year and start of hopefully many more to come. As I regularly say in my reviews, I think this is probably my favourite box, because it opens me up to so many different cruelty free products which is such a huge part of my life. No only does it give smaller brands to opportunity to showcase their glorious products it also gives subscribers the chance to open their minds to all sorts of possibilities (hello Vegan marshmallows!). A great year of boxes and I’m even more excited to see what the future holds for these guys. If you’d like to subscribe, hop on over to The Vegan Kind, subscriptions are £10 + postage and packaging a month.

If you subscribe to this box, let me know what you thought of this month’s goodies, if you aren’t yet a subscriber I’d still love to know what your thoughts are from my post!

Totally hellbent for The Vegan Kind

West Midlands Vegan Festival

November 3, 2014

West Midlands Vegan Festival

A week on Saturday we pried ourselves away from the internet and our home offices to go to Vegan Fest 2014 in Wolverhampton. We took our trusty carnivorous band mates Adam and Matt along so they could sample some delights. This event had been in our calendar for a few months since we couldn’t get down to London (next year maybe!) but having such an event almost on our door steps really couldn’t be missed. We met many lovely people including the brains and beauty behind The Vegan Kind Box and discovered many delicious treats and shinies to take home as treasured spoils.

Here are some of the delights we brought home:

vegan-fest-spoils

Round Up Hand Crafted Gourmet Wagon Wheel Cake

I definitely miss marshmallows as a non meat eater. Unfortunately they are in a lot of nice foods – wagon wheels, rocky road cake, luxurious hot chocolates from the German Market. When we saw these, we’d almost convinced ourselves that we didn’t need them. Unfortunately second time round the stalls, we didn’t get away and ended up buying one each. Since I knew I was going for an hour long power walk that evening, I had mine immediately after taking a few snaps and it was absolutely divine! Much better than the “real thing” and something I’ll be on the look out for again.

£2.50 from Ananda Foods

Vege Bears – Slightly Sour

Another thing I miss is sour sweets – Haribo Tangfastic Cherry’s and fizzy cola bottles if I had to pinpoint them specifically. These were found on the way in and were the first purchase of the day. Surprisingly, they’ve lasted me all week and although they aren’t quite Haribo they come a close second.

£12.39 for 8 packs from Amazon

Harper’s Bizarres Soya Candle in Cinnamon Dreams

I’m a huge candle lover, so finding Vegan scented candles that are animal friendly was like a dream come true. If the array of deliciously scented candles wasn’t enough to fuel our need to buy things, the lady behind it all was an absolute pleasure to talk to and made the whole experience of sniffing candles a thousand times more exciting. This candle was an experimental one and I really hope they decide to make more because it is absolutely gorgeous. I’ve already got a list of the other candles I’m going to pick up from her online store next payday as well.

£5.00 from Harper’s Bizarres

Dairy-Free Bellissimo Parmesan

As a child we would always have grated Parmesan in the cupboard reserved strictly for “Spag Bol” nights, after discussing this at the Harper’s Bizarres stand, we were kindly pointed into the direction of Ananda foods where they had an ample supply of Vegan Parmesan. I’ve tried it since on a few pasta dishes and it’s absolutely perfect as well as reunited me with a few childhood memories.

£3.49 from Ananda Foods

Lush Snow Fairy

I wish they had pop up Lush stands everywhere! I can maybe manage to stand in a store for about 10 seconds before I’m hit in the face with a massive migraine, so being able to browse a few bits without this was amazing. Gem spotted the snow fairy first and after I’d given it a sniff I was hooked. I bought this and ended up with a free sample of beard wax and a badge too.

£3.75 from Lush

Banana Choc Drizzle Marshmallows

As I mentioned above, I miss marshmallows so much and recently thrived off having a taste of “Freedom Mallows” in a recent Vegan Kind box. When I saw these I just had to try them. I’m a bit of a sucker for Banana flavored things, so I was pretty excited about munching my way through these, even if my inner self was frowning at the potential calorie count. Despite my excitement though, they weren’t that nice which was a little disappointing. Having been spoiled with Freedom Mallows I think I ruined the future of Vegan mallows for myself. Still they won’t go to waste as my other half will be sinking his teeth into them.

£3.75 from Ananda Foods

West Midlands Vegan Fest Haul

Vegan Kind #TVK12 Box

Amie has been a subscriber to the amazing Vegan Kind box for nearly a year now, but I’ve never quite talked myself into it on the basis that I’m a really fussy eater (and anytime there is something I would enjoy inside Amie shares hers with me anyway!) but after meeting the lovely masterminds behind the box I just had to pick on up from their stand. You can see the full contents and read Amie’s thoughts on TVK12 here.

£7.00 (full price £10 + P&P) from The Vegan Kind

Harper’s Bizarres Soya Candle in Waffles

I really had to talk myself out of buying one of everything from the Harper’s Bizarres stand, but finally settled on “Waffles” a one-off experiment fragrance that completely satisfied all my sugary cravings! All the candles are handmade from vegan-friendly soy wax and are completely animal friendly, and with so many gorgeous scents on offer I’m sure to be placing another order online soon!

£5.00 from Harper’s Bizarres

Dairy-Free Bellissimo Parmesan

I am one of those terrible vegetarians who tries to go vegan every other week but ultimately fails because of cheese. This however might just be my savoir! It’s not too heavy on the calories and does have a lovely nutty cheesy flavour.

£3.49 from Ananda Foods

Round Up Hand Crafted Gourmet Wagon Wheel Cake

The thing I miss most from my omnivore days is probably a toss-up between jelly sweets and marshmallows, so seeing a whole stand full of fluffy white nommy-ness, I knew I had to have something. I settled for a vegan wagon wheel and oh my god – it’s the best thing ever! Way nicer than I remember it being even!

£2.50 from Ananda Foods

Lush Snow Fairy

I’ve always wanted to try Snow Fairy, but much like Amie I find that going into the Lush stores gives me a headache. Seeing it on the Lush stand meant I had to have a quick sniff and it was purchased mere moments later! The lovely Lush ladies also gave me a free beard wax that has been put aside for Roode, and a badge.

£3.75 from Lush

Miso On The Go Soup

I’m not actually a fan of miso soup as I find it far too fishy, but my other half adores all things that taste of the ocean so he will be receiving the many many free samples I picked up along the trip!

£0.90 from Clearspring

We had an amazing time and already can’t wait for our next Vegan adventures. It definitely makes us feel more comfortable knowing that we can still eat all the (naughty) nice things whilst keeping up our cruelty free lifestyle. Have you been to any Vegan/Veggie related events recently? If so, let us know which ones and what spoils you picked up!

Totally hellbent for not having to check labels when we shop

The Vegan Kind #TVK12 October Box Review

October 19, 2014

TVK12

I have a slight confession to make in that I actually received this box about a week and a half ago and I’m afraid that I can’t keep using the “puppy” as a good enough excuse for not blogging more frequently! (Although that is totally the truth) I’ve had a busy month so far in terms of work which is great, but unfortunately this means a few late nights and my inability to want to sit in front of the computer for a minute longer once I’m done, favoring sitting in bed with an early grey and a biscuit. Still, it’s the weekend and I’m so enthused by this month’s box that I have to get this blog out so I devour whats left of the contents!

It’s hard to believe that this is the 12th box and The Vegan Kind have corrected me in saying their official birthday is actually November, but this is still my favorite monthly box and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Each month I receive delicious Vegan treats and a lifestyle extra and not to mention the 10p donation to a good animal charity from each box. This month’s is the Manchester and Cheshire dogs home which is a very worthy cause and I’d already donated a little something a few months ago after the horrific tragedy. So here’s to the twelfth box and many many more and since next month is apparently the official birthday, I hope they have something special planned!

#TVK12:

TVK12-angelic

Angelic Gluten Free Double Chocolate Cookies – 125g (RRP £2.60)

What’s that you say? Reduced fat, gluten free, dairy free, wheat free and 75 calories per cookie? YES!!! I’ll admit, after I took my photos (which were pretty rushed due to the bad weather/lighting/work commitments and my inability to contain my hunger) I indulged in one of these. Now we aren’t talking a Millies scrumptiously gooey, warm cookie here, but my gods this is pretty darn good. I would have no qualms eating these for the rest of eternity and by passing all other cookies if I had to. I’ve also been following weight watchers the past four weeks (preemptive Christmas strategy is probably something to do with that too) and I can confirm that each cookie is only 2 Pro Points for those that are interested.

You can get down with some guilt free face stuffing cookies here.

TVK12-howdah

Howdah Onion Bhajis – 100g (RRP £2.39)

Another delicious snack on this month’s menu are these “Onion Bhaji” snacks. Packing quite a punch with each bite, they are a wonderful bit of savory style nom when you are in the mood for … well … “something”. My only downside is the pretty high calories and fat content per 25g serving. (3 Pro Points per 25g serving) so not a packet to devour all in one go and definitely one to measure out in the kitchen instead of taking the whole thing with you.

Check out their range here.

TVK12-triumph

Premae Skincare Triumph Creme Balm – 10ml sample (RRP £33.66)

I am a fan of no nonsense moisturisers, so a cruelty free moisturiser is right up my street. With added anti-ageing Vitamin A, C and K, I couldn’t ask for more. The sample is a pretty decent size too although I’m not sure I would spend £51 on the full size 15ml version. It feels quite luxurious on the skin and I didn’t react to it at all which is a good thing, so I guess I’ll see how it holds when used on a regular basis.

For more of the premae skin care range, visit their website.

TVK12-landgarten

Landgarten Organic Dark Chocolate Covered Raspberries – 90g (RRP £1.99)

I’ve tried some of Landgarten products before – chocolate covered soya beans to be exact and they were very scrummy. I’m therefore holding high hopes for these chocolate covered raspberries. Another snack bound for a workout day but exciting none the less!

To see their yummy chocolate covered treats, visit their site here.

TVK12-nom

Nom Organic Oat Bar – 52g (RRP £1.49)

This seems a perfect breakfast substitute (pre gym of course again due to the high calories!). Being vegan, organic and having a low GI I’m going to enjoy nibbling on this before a intensive workout – although I may indulge in only half of the bar! You can pick these up in a few places including Ocado so I’m bound to see these around.

TVK12-ombre-cake

As always with each month’s box, you get a recipe card for your beautiful Vegan Kind ring binder which you now receive on month 6 of your subscription. This month is from Little Miss Meat Free and is a scrumptious looking Ombre Vanilla Dream Cake – definitely something I’ll be making nearer the festive season.

Read more about their product here.

I really take my invisible hat off to The Vegan Kind for successfully delivering such a great box over the past year (almost), each month has been as exciting as the last and I’ve been opened up to so many amazing Vegan products, including the lifestyle items that I never imagined could exist – deodorant, washing powder, washing up liquid and moisturiser to name a few. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them as I hope they only get bigger and better.

If you’d like to try this box out, you can do so for just £10 plus p&p per month via their website here.

Totally hellbent for supporting such a great box!

The Vegan Kind #TVK11 September Box

September 17, 2014

TVK11

First things first – how are we on the 11th Vegan Kind Box already! Have I really been subscribed to a box for almost an entire year and not been disappointed once? I can assure you that this month is definitely no exception and as amazing as the previous boxes. Not to mention my great one of Vegan Kind Beauty Box which you can read about here.

So anyway, for those that don’t know and haven’t heard me singing the praises of this box, The Vegan Kind is a monthly subscription box which features 5-7 Vegan items and usually one beauty/lifestyle product. Despite my love for this box I can assure you I am not affiliated with them in any way! Anyway, I took my treats outside to to frolic with them in the sunshine. I know most professional photographers will frown, but I’m absolutely loving the beautiful shadows that natural sunlight has been casting on my photos recently and have really enjoyed my zero editing challenge!

Alas here is #TVK11

TVK11-ombar

Ombar Organic Coco Mylk Bar – 35g – (RRP £1.99)

Yes! First out the box is some delicious Vegan chocolate. I’m not sure I need to say much more on this. After savouring my Vega bar a few boxes back for a good few weeks, I doubt this one is going to last as long. None the less I’ll enjoy every morsel of it and then worry about 208 calories I’ve digested later.

For some guilt free chocolate scoffing, brush Green & Blacks aside and check out Ombar.

tvk11-hoots

Hoots Snacks Pickled Onion Flavour – 85g (RRP £0.60)

Ah, salty Vegan snacks how I savour you. Unfortunately these days I try to limit my intake of salty and sugary snacks, but these are a welcome treat. A little on the high calorie side of things so they will be eaten on a gym day but I’m loving the flavour and the low price! Now to just convince all of the shops that Vegan is the way forward.

You can visit their website here.

TVK11-bear

Bear Paws Raspberry & Blueberry – 20g – (RRP £2.95)

I am a huge fan of Bear snacks. So much so that this packet has now been demolished. The great thing about these though is they count towards 1 of your 5 a day and contain no nasty ingredients. I usually buy the little rolls they do but from not on I’ll be swapping to these bite size little nibbles.

You can see their site here or look out for their range in your local Holland & Barrett or supermarket.

tvk-11-taste

Taste Spice Magic BBQ Dust – 40g – (RRP £2.95)

Another favorite thing of mine about this box is the variety of flavors I get introduced to. I love receiving the herbs and spices that are usually incorporated into the recipe card and this magical BBQ dust is perfect. It’s also sizable enough to last for a little while and I’ll definitely be repurchasing once I’ve run out.

Check out the taste spice website here.

tvk11-skinlikes

Skin Likes Natural Deodorant – 70ml – (RRP £4.95)

I’m really enjoying this deodorant – 100% natural with a beautiful jasmine-esque fragrance it’s definitely different to the more chemically smelling under arm “smell be gones” that I tend to go for. The only thing that puts me off here though is the price – at nearly £5 this is quite steep and since I get through so much deodorant anyway, it’s bound to be a bit of a sting in my already stung bank balance. You can get a triple pack for just under £10 on their site, but even still this is quite a lot for someone who is used to spending only £1 on theirs. I guess the proof is in the pudding though and I’ll have to see whether this does me justice after 2 hours in the gym.

You can purchase these as well as Skin Likes for men via their website here.

tvk11-creative-nature

Creative Nature Blissful Berry Snack Bar – 38g – (RRP £1.20)

This is actually a little different from the usual bars we get in this box, it’s more of a flapjack bar. (Unfortunately it’s riddled with sultanas) But I do like the concept of this. I’m going to give this a go and if all else fails, then Brains will happily finish it off for me. Another great post gym snack though and if you’re into super foods then check out their website for lots of other delightful treats.

Creative Nature Website

tk11-nothingbut

Nothing But Fruit Pineapple & Grape Snack – 11g – (RRP 1.20)

Last month I received a savory bag of noms from Nothing But – admittedly still in my “treat” cupboard and by treat cupboard, I mean full of raw, vegan protein goodies for a post gym fix. Since this was their new product launch it’s quite nice to try something else from their range. I love pineapple and grape so I’m sure I will enjoy these a lot!

Nothing But Website

tvk11-recipe-card

TVK Recipe Card

Each month we receive a recipe card, usually featuring an ingredient received in our box. These fit nicely in the ring binder that you used to receive on the third month of your subscription, but by the looks of the welcome letter this has now changed to month 6. Alas this month’s recipe was from The Vegan Kind themselves and featured a fajita mix with home made sides. I love fajitas and I’ll be testing this out over the next few weeks!

As I usually mention, each month 10p from every box is donated to an animal charity chosen by the subscribers. This month’ it’s Serbia’s forgotten paws – a fantastic charity campaigning for better conditions for the stray dogs of Serbia.

Another great box from The Vegan Kind, if you’d like to get your paws on one then head over to their website here and subscribe for just £10 a month plus p & p. Next year should mark their first birthday so I’m really intrigued as to whether they will be doing anything special! Stay tuned for next month’s.

Totally hellbent for nommy Vegan treats always!

Hello Fresh Review

September 16, 2014

Many beauty boxes ago I received a £25 off voucher for Hello Fresh – a box that delivers you all the ingredients you need to make deliciously tasty meals. It’s been sat in the craft room for a long time until I came across it a week or so ago and decided to try it out. The boxes are usually £36 for three meals for two people. With my voucher, this meant I managed to get this for just £11, a price I felt was worth trying since that’s what I would generally spend if I popped to Tesco’s to “pick something up for tea”.

Intrigued as to what Hello fresh was all about, I ordered my first box on the Thursday that was scheduled to arrive the following Tuesday. There are a variety of boxes to suit everyone (although sadly no exclusive Vegan box as yet) and you can choose whether your box is for 2, 4 or 6 people.

I went for the Veggie Box for 2 people which included three meals. Delivery was prompt, early morning on the Tuesday. So prompt and early in fact that I was still in my dressing gown when I hazily opened the door with my pre-morning-tea grimace to a massive box that only just squeezed through the door.

Inside was all of the ingredients needed to make the three recipes provided – on individual recipe cards with a break down of specific ingredients, how much was needed of each and detailed instructions of how to prepare each meal.

hellofresh-box1

hellofresh-sweet-potato-ingredients

Day One was Sri Lankan Sweet Potato and Green Bean Curry.

The ingredients were fairly standard which is nice because it means I can make this again. My only gripe is that there was one 175g packet of Basmatic Rice – two recipes called for 150g of Rice but did not state whether this was cooked or uncooked so I presumed they had forgotten to send me another packet. None the less for this recipe I used Bulgar Wheat instead – just in case. It worked just as well and used up some of my dried cupboard food.

hellofresh-sweet-potato

This probably my favorite out of the three. It was creamy and spicy but packed full of flavours. I think the addition of the lime and the coconut and cashews in this really helped to add some crunch and zing and is something I wouldn’t have thought about putting in a coconut based curry previously. The recipe stated it should take between 30-40 minutes, which is probably right. If you don’t mind spending some time cutting and preparing your ingredients then the rest is mostly stirring and checking. Nutritional values were also provided with each recipe – for this one per serving  they were as follows;

  • 713 calories
  • 22g fat
  • 92g carbohydrates
  • 16g protein

This may seem a lot per serving, but actually is far better than a lot of other meals due to the fresh produce and being packed with delicious vegetables. The other great thing about this meal is that there was enough left over for the day after, so 10 minutes of cooking some more bulgar wheat and heating it through and we’d actually managed to produce 4 meals instead of 2.

hellofresh-sicilian-caponata-ingredients

Day two greeted us with Sicilian Caponata with Pine Nuts and Garlic Ciabatta.

This one was probably the easiest to cook – manageable in just under 30 minutes. Again a lot relies on you chopping the ingredients first, something which I really don’t mind as I tend to prefer my food fresh rather than from a pan.

hellofresh-sicilian-caponata

This meal was my least favorite. It was nice and I did eat the whole bowl but it just didn’t tickle my fancy all that much. Probably something I will try to re-invent with a few different ingredient. There was enough for two people this time so we didn’t have any left over for the next day. Something I was pretty glad about.

Nutritional Values were;

  • 395 caloreis
  • 1g fat
  • 58g carbohydrates
  • 12g protein

The lowest in calories and fat, but bumped up a little by the Ciabatta. I was a little skeptical at having only received one Ciabatta roll to begin with, but actually cut in half and then in two was plenty for us both.

hellofresh-mexican-rice

Day three and our final meal was Escondido Crusted Mexican Rice with Jalapenos and Chipotle.

This meal involved a little more prep – it was advised to cook the rice the night before and leave on a baking tray in the fridge until ready to use which I did. It wasn’t too much hassle really as I simply put the rice on to cook whilst I was cooking the day before.

hellofresh-mexican-rice-ingredients

When I said that the Sri-Lanken curry was my favourite – I may have lied. This was most definitely on par with it and I would probably enjoy eating both of them simultaneously for the rest of my days. What really helped is the freshness of the ingredients and again the addition of things that I wouldn’t usually thing of – the wedge of lime to sprinkle over at the end and a dash of corriander to garnish. I absolutely love corriander and often forget how well it goes with Mexican style dishes so since feasting on this I’ve been adding fresh corriander to all my recipes similar to this since!

Nutritional Values were:

  • 458 calories
  • 2g fat
  • 83g carbohydrates
  • 16g protein

Again another delicious meal, but with a fairly low calorie count and packed with yummy veg. This also did us for two meals, although I did cook the entire packet of rice so this probably has something to do with it.

hellofresh-extras

As well as all of the ingredients for the above meals, I also received a few little extras. An early grey tea bag from teapigs and a £3 off voucher when I spend £25 as well as a pip fruit juice drink which was very yummy.

Overall I’ve had a pretty amazing experience from Hello Fresh. Despite my apprehension at first, I’ve really enjoyed discovering new recipes and have been overwhelmed at how fresh the ingredients were – they all seemed to be organic or sourced locally. It is a little expensive at £36 a box and I could probably have bought most of the ingredients myself for a lot cheaper, but overall I can’t really grumble since everything was already mostly measured out for me and delivered straight to my door and I never seem to visit the supermarket for “tea” without picking up things that I really didn’t need.

Will I try this again? Well actually I did order another box, unfortunately it was lost in delivery, but even this experience was very positive. As soon as Hello Fresh had discovered there was a problem with my box, they e-mailed me immediately to let me know what was going on so I wasn’t left hanging around for a delivery and wondering why the evening’s meal hadn’t arrived. They were also very accommodating and gave me a full refund, kept me up to date with everything that was going on and have arranged for some extra credit to be put on my account for my next box. I’ve really been blown away by the customer service and can’t fault the guys at Hello Fresh one bit! Definitely one step ahead, which made my experience so much more positive.

Each box is delivered weekly, but it’s not like other subscriptions where you have to jump through hoops to cancel or change your box type. Your online account dashboard is super simple to use and you don’t have to have a box delivered every week. Choosing your boxes is very simple and you can pick when you want your deliveries simply by clicking and un-clicking the dates on their handy calendar up to 8 weeks in advance. So if you fancied a box after each pay day, you can do this. You can also see what meals are coming up in the next weeks box, so if it’s something you don’t like, you don’t have to have a box!

It’s not something I can justify doing weekly, but I’ve scheduled in a box every 3-4 weeks and think it’s a great idea to get people excited about cooking healthy meals instead of resorting to overly processed frozen foods.

If you’d like to try Hello Fresh, or simply have a look at what meals they have coming up or what they offer, simply visit their website at Hello Fresh and take a peek. If you’ve already tried Hello Fresh, I’d love to know what box you chose and what your thoughts were!

Totally hellbent for the freshest ingredients and the tastiest new recipes

The Vegan Kind Beauty Box

September 15, 2014

TVKBB

For those of you who are regular readers, you will know that The Vegan Kind is a monthly subscription box that delivers 100% Vegan and cruelty free snacks, lifestyle items and beauty products. You will also probably know that it’s one of my favorite monthly boxes and a huge part of this is down to the discovery of new Vegan products. When they announced they would be releasing a one off beauty box packed with cruelty free products I was so excited and have been waiting for it’s release ever since. Granted I’m a little late ordering this as Gem and I have been away but the most important thing is that it has arrived and it’s in my possession!

So enough rambling, I took this lovely box into the sunshine and captured the following treats in all their unedited glory;

TVKBB-inika

Inika Black Caviar Eyeliner – (RRP £13.50)

***Swatch below*** A girl can never have too many black eyeliners right? I’ve fallen out with pencil eyeliners over the years since I discovered liquid and gel, but I’m willing to forgo my bad experiences of the panda look 5 minutes after application and give this a shot. It’s application is smooth and creamy and it promises to deliver an even colour that wears all day without smudging. (I’ll definitely be the judge of this!) Another great this to note about the Inika Eyeliner is that it’s formulated with natural plant products and should be suitable for sensitive eyes. A cruelty free eyeliner that’s doesn’t smudge, can be worn all day and won’t leave me teary eyes and bleak faced – a look which others mistake for misery and sadness and beauty bloggers rcognise as “eyeliner eye”. These are bold statements to live up to and I’m going to test the to their limits! Statement aside, at £13.50 I’m not sure I could be lured into purchasing this again even if it does turn out to be the best thing I’ve ever discovered.

For more of their products you can visit their website (the we developer in me raised it’s eyebrows at the irritating navigational ability of their site!) over at Inikacosmetics.co.uk

TVKBB-Furless

Furless ‘Must Have’ Stippling Brush – (RRP £8.50)

Oh Vegan Kind … you are the real Prince Charming. Plying me with chocolate and treats and saving the animals of the world and then you go and pull off a gesture like gifting upon me a Furless brush! I have longed for one of these brushes – just one – just to try – just to hold! Although I am contented with my Real Techniques brushes (do you have any idea how hard it is to find the perfect cruelty free makeup brush?) I have been lusting after the Furless brush range since forever. So why have I not invested in their brushes before? Probably something to do with the shipping starting at $66.90 AUD (that’s about £40 for us Brits depending on the currency rate). Thanks to The Vegan Kind, I can now experience just how beautiful their brushes are. There is only one word I need to describe this – soft – yup, the softest brush I have ever encountered! I can not wait to take this on tour with me and when I’m flush with cash, (or win the lottery) I might convince myself that £40 is worth it to support a cruelty free and Vegan brand.

To lust over all of their other things, you can do so here. Definitely not for the weak ‘walleted’.

TVKBB-White-rabbit

White Rabbit Lime and Coconut Cleansing Water – (RRP £4)

There has been a bit of a mantra going on throughout this box – “Do Not Eat”. More on that later though. This gorgeous cleansing water is most definitely a great alternative to facial wipes or cleanser and toner. Not only are all the ingredients skin friendly and natural but it smells and absolutely treat! It took all my will power not to down it in one and I’m having to remind myself that this is for my face. It feels quite oily when used, but I quite like this in a product especially as my skin is dry (and my skin is hurtling towards Winter – when it could give the desert a run for it’s money!). It also leaves my skin feeling refreshed and clean which I don’t always get from a face wipe and even some cleansers and toners. This is definitely a brand I will be checking out!

Their etsy store can be found here.

TVKBB-beautiful-movements-adobe

Beautiful Movements Cosmetics Beauty Eyeshadow – 1g sample in “Adobe Brick” – (RRP £3.50)

***Swatch below*** This is the first of the two mineral eyeshadows in this box. Adobe Brick is a shimmery bronze which ordinarily I would have shied away from in favour of the classic neutral or black eye, but actually when tied with a green eyeshadow, you can make some beautiful smokey eyes with such a shade. Application wise it’s beautiful. Not too boring and brown but also not gold, thus the perfect “bronze” – I reckon this will look great with my gold Manowar top and teeny gold studded mini shorts (providing I lay off the pies for a while!) and will also get a look in when it comes to packing my stage makeup!

RVKBB-beautiful-movements

Beautiful Movements Cosmetics Beauty Eyeshadow – 1g sample in “Platinum Tiara” – (RRP £3.50)

***Swatch below*** Platinum Tiara is also a shimmery shade, this one is grey which is great since I absolutely love grey shadows as they are so versatile. I initially thought it may have been silver but on swatching the grey really shows itself, enough sparkly to add a pop to your eyes and this applies equally as well as “Adobe Brick”. I will be making a mental note to use more loose eye shadows from now on instead of allowing them to gather dust in my “collection” (*cough* hoard *cough*).

For more shades and other products you can visit them here. Take note if any one wants to buy me “Aquatic Galaxy” and “Emerald Showers” I would be very grateful!

TVKBB-Hedgerow-herbals

Simply Soaps Orange Cocoa Bath Melt – (RRP £4.50)

Unfortunately, this is another product not for eating. It is -not- chocolate, despite it’s look/smell and it probably won’t taste very nice if I put it in my mouth. (Hurp de durp to all of you disgustingly minded people out there … yes Gemma, that includes you.) I bet if you enjoy baths that this would be absolutely amazing to use and I can imagine it being incredibly relaxing. Unfortunately I hate baths and the closest I get to submerging myself in that much water is the occasional swim in the pool and bathing CJ the pooch so I wont be getting to use this. I’m willing to donate this to a much worthier cause though for their enjoyment.

For more soapy products, Simply Soaps site can be found here.

TVKBB-swatches

Above are the swatches for the Inika Eyeliner and Beautiful Movements Eyeshadows

It would appear that The Vegan Kind beauty box has been an absolutely success. I’ve enjoyed this more than any of my regular beauty box subscriptions and I’m a little sad that it’s all over now. Although this is a one off, I really hope they look at putting together another beauty box. One of my biggest gripes about the standard beauty box is having to check all of the labels and products to see if I can use them, and then being sorely disappointed when I find out that I’ve ended up with useless items made from fish scales or goat hair. This way The Vegan Kind do all the hard work for me and I can enjoy all the fabulous bits and pieces they send via the postman!

If you want to get your hands on their one off beauty box, you can do so here for just £15.00 plus p&p. I strongly urge you all to purchase one, even if it’s just to encourage them to release another! (Ahem did I mention you get over £35 worth of stuff that didn’t hurt a single animal!)

To convince you even more of how much you need this box in your life, I’m just going to leave this picture here;

Until next time Vegan Kind Beauty Box (because there really should be a next time!)

Totally hellbent for not having to google all of the most ridiculous and random cosmetic ingredients!

The Vegan Kind July Box

August 17, 2014

TVK10

It seem’s like only yesterday I received my last Vegan Kind Box but upon my return from the last camping festival of the year this month’s box was sat waiting for me. A much needed surprise and packed full of treats (as always) to cure the post blues festival feeling and to help purge my body of noodles and tinned fruit!

If you’re new to The Vegan Kind box, we are currently on box 10 of a monthly box crammed full of 100% Vegan treats and lifestyle/beauty products. Each month 10p from each box is donated to a charity picked by subscribers of which this month is the Nut House Hen Rescue.

So here’s #TVK10;

TVK10-freedom-mallows

Freedom Mallows Strawberry – 75g (RRP £2.50)

Admittedly one of many reasons for me subscribing to TVK was that their first box had Veggie marshmallows – honestly, for those of you who arn’t Vegan or Vegetarian, you have no idea how much stuff we miss out on! Haribo, marshmallows, chocolate, mousse … the list is endless and why manufacturers feel the need to make their products with animal derivatives is beyond me. Unfortunately I missed out on the first box but have been subscribed ever since, so I was completely stoked when I pulled this out as my first product. They are so delicious that I have already bought two more packets from their website ready for any last minute BBQs we can squeeze in to the British Summertime that seems to be over or failing that Winter Hot Chocolates with Gem & Roode (this is definitely not one I will be sharing with non-veggies … sorry guys). A little on the pricey side, but well worth it.

You can get your fill of Vegan marshmallows here; Freedom Mallows (did I mention gluten, dairy, egg, fat, nut & GMO free?)

TVK10-nothingbut

Nothing But Red Pepper and Mangetout Snack – 20g (RRP£1.20)

I’m pretty intrigued by these actually – less than 20 calories per bag and made from Red Pepper and Mange Tout – nothing more. I love finding snacks that have zero artificial flavourings and preservatives and am definitely one for 100% natural eating so I’m hoping these will be tasty. They also have Pea and Sweetcorn and Beetrooth & Parsnip but unfortunately little to none information about where to find them!

Nothing But Website

TVK10-soapnut

Living Naturally Soapnut Tabs – 265g (20 tablets) – (RRP £6.49)

I love discovering natural, organic & Vegan products for the home and I’m pretty impressed with the size of this one – 20 washes is amazing! Apparently this is the worlds first soapnut laundry tablet and can be used between 30 – 90 degrees. Keep your eyes peeled for a review of this once I’ve cracked them open.

Check out their other products on the Soapnuts Website

TVK10-propercorn

Propercorn Sweet and Salty Popcorn – 30g  (RP£0.80)

Ah popcorn – I am definitely one for popcorn at the moment and I’m pretty obsessed with sweet & salty, especially the Propercorn stuff. Although it’s not a new discovery for me I’m very happy at having a packet to nibble on! You can pick these up in most supermarkets and they come in a variety of flavours too.

For more info visit their website here

TVK10-pulsin

Pulsin Vanilla Choc Chip Protein Bar -50g (RRP £1.79)

Zero dates! If you’ve read my other Vegan Kind posts you’ll know that I generally end up with some sort of delicious looking protein bar which always contains dates and/or raisins which I just cannot abide by. I don’t know what it is but the thought of eating either doesn’t go down too well with me. This bar has neither and looks to be a nice post workout snack that I can enjoy with little guilt, although it will have to wait a few more days since I’m in the middle of a 5 day juice fast.

For more of their raw protein range, visit their website here

TVK10-wristband

Teen VGN Fuelled By Compassion Wrist Band – Bonus Item (RRP £1.20)

This little extra is quite cute, I’m a fan of my wristbands and jewellery especially ones that have meaning behind them, TeenVGN is a social netwrk for young Veggies & Vegans and I wish something like this had been around when I was a little younger and just starting out on my cruelty free quest. Having said that, Gem and I tend to do pretty well and we have a nice circle of friends who are mostly supportive and/or Veggie/Vegan (occasionally we get the odd bacon jokes from the Dakesis boys).

So if you are a younger Veggie/Vegan wanting to find out more information or just some support, visit teenvgn.com and have a look around! Meanwhile, I’ll be pretending I’m still a teenager :oD and definitely ‘repping’ my wristband with pride.

TVK10-recipe-card

As if the above wasn’t already enough, this month’s recipe card was for a Nectarine Salad from Coconut and Berries – another to add to my folder and list of things to try. Once again another superb box from The Vegan Kind, my only issue with finding so many great Vegan delights is that sometimes they aren’t readily available and it makes me a little sad that it’s so difficult to pick up natural, raw, organic and Vegan things in the local shops since people favor processed food too much. Hopefully given time a lot of these companies will branch out.

If you’re interested in subscribing to The Vegan Kind you can do so here via their website. Each box is £10 a month plus P&P.

Totally hellbent for curing post festival blues with Vegan treats

Vegan Slow Roasted Vegetable Soup

July 11, 2014

Usually Soup is reserved for the Winter months, but at the moment I’m trying every way possible to shove as much fruit & veg into my mouth on a daily basis. More recently I’ve had a bit of a craving for a hearty homemade Vegetable Soup and I hold our guitarist Matt fully responsible – some weeks ago he invited Gem and I over to discuss some band matters and surprised us with a lovely Vegetable Soup that he’d made.

To satisfy my cravings and to test out some of the things we grew in the garden, I made a small batch of Vegan Roasted Veg Soup. This is probably one of the easiest recipes ever and you can throw whatever you like into it! My recipe serves around 2-4, so if you want to make more or less, adjust the Vegetables to suit!

Ingredients:

  • 1 onion or 2 shallots
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 Pepper
  • 6-10 Carrots (depending on size)
  • 2 Sweet Potatoes
  • 2 Stalks of Celery
  • 3 Baby Potatoes
  • A few sprigs of Rosemary
  • 1-2 Pints of Vegetable Stock (I used a Kallo cube)
  • 1 teaspoon of Olive Oil or 1 cal Olive Oil Spray

Pre-heat the oven to 160 degrees or around Gas Mark 3/4.

prepare-veg

Peel and slice all your ingredients except the garlic and place these in a large roasting tin. I peeled both the Sweet Potatoes and the Baby Potatoes – usually I like to leave the skin on, but these were from the garden so it was easier to peel.

Add the Olive Oil to the roasting dish and coat the vegetables – I tend to use 1 cal Olive Oil spray but normal Olive Oil is fine too.

Chuck a few sprigs of fresh Rosemary on top and place in the oven for about an hour. Once they begin to soften, take them out the oven and give them a mix – add the garlic and place back in the oven for another 1-2 hours or until softened and caramelised.

roasted-veg

Remove the roasted Veggies from the oven and set to one side.

prepare-stock

Prepare your stock.  I’ve been using Kallo who make a low sodium cube and Vecon as a lot of “Vegetable” Stock cubes contain Milk powder. I used just over 1 litre, but you can add more or less depending on how thick you want the soup. Blend all of your lovely roasted veggies (if you prefer it chunky, you can blend half of the mixture) and add to a saucepan. I like to add a little of my stock to the roasting tin just to get all of those lovely Veggie juices up.

add-to-pan

Add the rest of your stock and your blended Veggies to a large saucepan and reheat. Season to taste.

serve

Serve & Enjoy.

I made enough for just about 4 portions, so I’ve frozen half of this for another day. It’s great for chucking in the oven and leaving it until you are ready for dinner. It literally takes minutes to whizz it in a blender and add it to some stock in a saucepan. Depending on what (and how many) Veggies you cram it with, this dish can be really great as a snack or filling enough for a main meal.

Have you made any soups recently? If you’ve tried this recipe do share you pictures with me and tell me what yummy Vegetables you threw into the mix!

Totally hellbent for easy soup made from homegrown vegetables

The Vegan Kind July Box #TVK9

July 5, 2014

TVK9

I’ve been having a beauty box meltdown the past few months and have really had to get my priorities right with which boxes I want to keep – trying to save money isn’t quite as easy when you realise exactly how much you are spending on boxes!

One box that I had no doubt in my mind I’d continue to subscribe to is The Vegan Kind. I’ve not had one box that has disappointed me and although my completely inconvenient sense of taste has let me down on a number of occasions when trying some of the superficially looking delicious treats they provided, I have in fact had my eyes opened to a whole host of Vegan brands that have lots of things I -will- eat (no raisins at all!!!). (Also, notice my complete lack of full stops and commas in that previous sentence to emphasise my disdain for my taste buds disliking raisins – dangerous or what?)

And now my spiel for those who have not encountered The Vegan Kind yet – it’s a monthly subscription box costing just £10 a month plus p&p. Each month you are sent a variety of tasty treats and a lifestyle/beauty product that are all completely Vegan and cruelty free. You also get a recipe card and a cute ring binder once you’ve subscribed to three boxes to keep them in.

Each month 10p of every box is donated to the featured animal charity chosen and this month is Blind Dog Rescue UK.

So now all the important info is out the way, we can move on to the exciting contents!

TVK9-heavenly-organics

Heavenly Organics ‘Just Add Water’ Shampoo 30g (RRP £2.40)

First of all, I’m just going to share with you the ingredients of this mighty pot;

  • Sodium Bicarbonate
  • Sapindus Mukorossi fruit extract organic (Soapnt) powder

Yup, that’s it. Simply tip a small amount of the powder into your hand, add a little water to form a paste and massage into hair. I’m usually one to avoid using Shampoo when I can – when I do give in to freshen my hair a little, I probably use no more than a pea sized amount because it strips the colour from my hair thanks to all the ingredients. I’m definitely well excited about trying this out though and I can see myself switching to this as an alternative if I enjoy it.

If you are into your Vegan and Cruelty Free products, I’d seriously recommend checking out more from Heavenly Organics, they have a great range of products and I’m already fearful of my bank balance since I’ve picked out a whole host of things I want.

TVK9-frank

Frank Bar – Strawberry and Chocolate Flavour (RRP £1)

Ah, the dreaded good source of protein bar! They look so tasty, but my brain just can’t handle the whole dried fruit/date situation. I’m pretty sure the Strawberry and Chocolate flavour will help convince me that this is tasty though and if all else fails, these will never go to waste because my partner Brains is more than happy to gobble up the rest of it. Seriously though, for those of you who don’t mind the texture of dates, these are gluten and nut free and is probably a nice little pick me up after a workout session!

More from “The Frank Food Co” here.

TVK9-squeeze

Squeeze Juice Café – Wheatgrass Juice 30ml (RRP £2)

I know that this is going to taste either bloody amazing, or absolutely revolting. Alas, I’ve heard so much about Wheatgrass and part of my new healthier lifestyle involves stuffing my face with as many raw and delicious fruit and veg as I can. So whether I love it or hate it, this will be going into my morning smoothie. At £2.30 a shot, it’s a little on the expensive side but I’m looking forward to trying it out and decided whether I’ll be adding Wheatgrass to my diet full time or not.

Squeeze Juice Cafe have a variety of packs available from a 7 day to 168 day supply of Wheatgrass available on their website.

TVK9-coconut-organics

Coconut Organics – CocoBacon (RRP £2.35)

When I pulled this out the box I was very intrigued – I’m a fan of “bacon bits” – the Vegan kind, that just tastes very salty and moreish rather than actual bacon, but the notion of bacon flavoured coconut flakes sounds crazy! In a good way that is. Made with coconut oil and low GI coconut sugar (you’ve all heard me rave about Coconom) it sounds like a slightly less guilty snacking alternative to a very sugary snack!

I’ll probably report back via instagram as to how long it takes me to polish the bag off, but in the mean time check out their website here.

TVK9-vitacoco

Vita Coco – natural coconut water 500ml (RRP £2.50)

YES! Honestly, I can not express my joy when I saw this in the box. Coconut water is actually something I’ll be featuring in my “Healthy Vegan Festival Snacks” post and I’ve been meaning to pick up some of this for some time to ass to my smoothies. Boasting such qualities as high in potassium and minerals, but low in fat and carbohydrates, this is a perfect addition to a diet and at only 45 calories per 250ml, a definite alternative to that cheeky can of coke.

Vita Coco also have other flavours of coconut water here.

TVK9-vego

Vego – Whole Hazelnut Chocolate Bar 150g (RRP £3.50)

Although I was obviously more excited by the coconut water – what a whopper this is! Honestly, I wish I could post this bar through my PC monitor just to show you how massive it is. Vego is a brand I’ve heard good things about, but I’ve never had the pleasure of trying. One of the things I do miss is a cheeky bit of chocolate here and there, so some guilt free snacking is well overdue. I mean guilt free in the animal product free sense and not the calorific sense. It’s a 150g bar, so for one piece (approx. 30g) it’s a lovely 177 calories – but who want’s to eat healthy chocolate anyway? This will be savoured for those days that I’ve worked extra hard at the gym and I’m going to enjoy a sensible 1 chunk at a time.

Unfortunately the Vego website is currently under development, so they have little information about their other products – but for future reference, you can find them at vego-chocolate.com

TVK9-recipe-card

This month’s recipe card is from Moving Scouse – you can check out their blog here. It’s a tasty sweet treat, just in time for Summer (whatever that means in Britain!) – Agave sweetened raspberry sorbet. I might try the recipe out with some Coconom and see how that turns out! I do love getting the recipe cards each month, since I love trying new things.

I have to say kudo to The Vegan Kind this month, this has been the best box to date. Since their launch, the boxes seem to be getting better and I hope as they expand, more companies will get in on the action to spread the Vegan joy and help those of us leading the cruelty free lifestyle discover lots of different alternatives. You can subscribe to their monthly box via their website here. Until next month aye …

Totally hellbent for absolutely everything in this month’s box – even the dates!
