Murad Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask Review

Today’s facemask is the Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask from Murad, a brand that I’d not heard of before this sample arrived in last month’s Love Me Beauty box. I say sample, but it’s not actually a sample – when you purchase this you receive six of these little sachets, and I’m not entirely sure I like this concept as one of the first things I noticed was that you get way more than you need for one use.

The official description-

Dissolve tired cells and free skin from trapped impurities for a refreshed, revitalised and balanced complexion.

Despite being an exfoliating mask there are no grains or abrasive particles at all, the mask has a clear gel texture and no amount of scrubbing in the world is going to make it buff away dead skin like a conventional exfoliator. It gave a sort of tingly sensation that I imagine could be quite uncomfortable if you have very sensitive skin, but it was mild enough on my own skin which is tough as nails.

Murad Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask

Although the Murad Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask doesn’t really “set” like a clay mask it does tighten ever so slightly after around 10 minutes which I always think is a good reminder to go take it off!

It washed off in a matter of moments and I have to say my skin felt amazing! When I got out of the shower and had a peek in the mirror I almost gasped, ,my ruddy greasy skin looked radiant and bright and the effects lasted for a good few days!

I’ve stuck religiously to my Soap & Glory No Clogs Allowed (Reviewed here) recently, but I think I might consider buying a box of these for days when I really need a pick me up.

£25 for a box of six sachets from Murad.com

Totally hellbent for being blown away by the results

Soap and Glory No Clogs Allowed Super Self Heating Deep Pore Detox Mask

January 3, 2014

Soap and Glory no clogs allowed

It’s been absolutely ages since I posted, but with Christmas and new years out of the way now seems the perfect time to be giving my skin some TLC and I couldn’t put on a face-mask without knocking out a #Facemaskfriday blog!

The Soap & Glory No Clogs Allowed Super Self Heating Deep Pore Detox Mask (I swear the names of products are getting longer again!) is an exfoliating, self-heating mask that doesn’t harden. You take a grape sized amount and rub it into your skin till it turns from white to blue, as it does you feel the warming effect start up and then after five minutes you’re good to take it off.

I usually prefer clay based masks as they work wonders on my oily t-zone, but this left my skin not only squeaky clean but also really soft! It came off in the shower without the need for a wash-cloth and left no residue behind at all.

The 100ml tube seems a really generous size for the price point, and even with weekly use this looks like it will last a really long time.

Definitely just what my skin needs to get through these cold winter months!

Available from Boots.com for £8.50

Totally hellbent for a clog free face!

Facemask Friday – Avon Planet Spa Thailand Lotus Flower

November 15, 2013

planet spa lotus mask

Well it’s Friday again, and after a rather rocky few weeks for Gem and I consisting of feeling under the weather and bogged down with reams of work as the festive season approaches it’s a chance to take a step back and relax. (Not for too long mind!)

Today’s facemask is the Avon Planet Spa Thailand Lotus Flower deep pore cleansing facemask. (Bit of a mouthful there!) My favourite thing about this mask, is the way it drys, it turns a beautiful lilac colour and smells beautiful.

Application is smooth, as it takes such a long time to dry there is time to spread the mask evenly. Although it’s heavily scented, it doesn’t seem to irritate my skin at all which is great.

The mask dry’s hard, but is easily washed off. I generally wash mine in the shower which probably makes it a bit easier, but I have also rinsed this with a soft flannel.

Once I’ve removed the mask, it does feel a little softer, although perhaps not as great as my Body Shop Warming Mineral Mask, however this is nicer for a more regular treat and brings a touch of luxury to the day!

You can pick up the Planet Spa face mask range online direct from Avon or from your nearest representative between £1.50 and £4.00. Unfortunately the Thailand Lotus Flower face mask is unavailable, but I’m sure they will re release this again soon.

Totally hellbent for perk me up facemasks!

Facemask Friday – The Body Shop Warming Mineral Mask

October 18, 2013

bodyshopwarmingmaskLike Gem, I am a fan of face masks and as you all know, I may have more than a slight obsession with The Body Shop. This is a mask that I haven’t used in a while but before gig day tomorrow, I felt it was appropriate to bring a little pampering into my Friday evening!

This Warming Mineral Mask is the perfect mask for a dull, miserable day/evening. It doesn’t set and dry hard, however it warms when rubbed into the skin and washed off. It reminds me of sitting in the steam room at the gym, and smells a little like it too. I think it must be the ginger fragrance that does that (yes our gym has a fragranced steam room.)

I am not always a great fan of masks that don’t “set” but they have their advantages. What I like about this one, is that it’s easy to wash off and I generally do this in the shower anyway, but if you were to wipe it away with a sponge/cloth you don’t have to scrub your face to remove it all.

The results are amazing, my skin feels really invigorated and stays soft for a good few days afterwards. So next time it’s raining outside, you are having a night in or are feeling a little stressed try one of these out.

If you are sensitive to products, The Body Shop staff are lovely and very helpful and always give me small samples to try out first before I commit to buying. (Probably because they know I spend all my money there!)

You can buy The Body Shop’s warming mineral facemask directly from their website, or in store for £10.00.

If you have tried this out, I would love to know your thoughts?

– Totally hellbent for cosy masks

Facemask Friday: Avon Planet Spa Dead Sea Minerals

October 11, 2013

avon planet spa dead sea

This has been one of my favourite facemasks for ages but I’ve had to do without  as it was omitted from the brochures and online for a while. Then suddenly I found an unopened tube in the back of my facemask drawer – hurrah!

These tubes last a really long time as I find you only need a very thin layer, as opposed to the sachets where you have to use it all in one go.

It works great at absorbing excess oil and minimising pores, and always leaves my skin feeling really fresh and deep cleaned – so ticks all the boxes for me!

They’re a bit tricky to get hold of, but you can sometimes find them floating around on Ebay when they are not available from the brochure.

Totally hellbent for finding lost beauty treasure!
