Glossybox December 2014 Christmas Box Review

December 17, 2014

GVDEC14

I simply can not believe it is Christmas already. I also can’t believe that this box has been sat on my desk waiting to be reviewed for nearly two weeks now too. Time seems to be flying by and there simply aren’t enough hours in the day, but at least when it’s time for beauty boxes it feels like time pauses just for a moment as you lose yourself in the unveiling.

Glossybox are usually renowned for having spectacular festive boxes so I was super excited to find out what was in this month’s box, especially after the rumors of receiving some full size products.

GB-DEC-14-TRESEMME

TRESemme Nourish & Renew Tonic – 150ml full size product – £5.50 for full size

I’m not really sure what to make of this. It’s a solution you apply to your scalp and leave in, styling your hair as normal. It claims to help nourish the scalp and renew hair – I am already imaging how big this could potentially make my locks if I applied this though, given a) the amount of hair I have and b) my hair’s intolerance to liquid of any form. After trying it on a small section of my scalp, I can’t say I’ve noticed any real big difference other than my roots feel a little greasier in one spot and I can’t say I’m excited to try this out on my whole head as I imagine it would take a pretty long time to apply. Perhaps over the festive season I’ll put some time aside to give it a go properly and see how it fairs.

gb-dec-14-skin-pep

Skin Pep Hydra Boost Pure Haluronic Acid Serum – 15ml sample – £8.99 for 15ml

Admittedly this is a bit of a boring product for me. I have serum stock piled in my drawer’s like no tomorrow so yet another sample isn’t overly welcome. If this wasn’t enough to put me off, the Skin Pep website is something of a pharmaceutical wannabe company which frightens me a little. After trawling through their products I couldn’t see clearly whether all their products were tested on animals but a few select products which had FAQ sections stated their products were not tested on or contained any animal products. Having said that I’m still a little apprehensive about using brands who don’t have an open policy on animal testing. Edit: Thankfully I’ve been kindly informed of the black banner across the top of the Skin Pep website that clearly states “Pep Cosmeceuticals products are not tested on animals”. I think in my desperate frenzy of ingredient checking, I completely bi-passed this! Despite these qualms, there seems to be a lot of positive feed back for this product in particular especially for people who tend to suffer with dry skin that worsen’s during the colder month’s (yup, that’s me!) so this will be one for the “Winter Serum” pile.

gb-dec-14-anatomicals

anatomicals zap! zap! zap! gets that chap day and night spot stick – 3.5ml full size product – £3.00 for 3.5ml

anatomicals are a brand that I’ve really grown to like. I own quite a few of their products, including their head ache balm which has done wonders for my severe migraines. Although I don’t often suffer with spots I don’t mind receiving this so much as it’s a handy something to have stashed away for the hour of need. Judging by their previous wonder products, I hold high hopes that next time I’ve indulged in too much junk food and my body is paying me back that this will get me out of a spotty situation.

gb-dec-14-bellapierre

bellapierre cheek and lip stain in “coral” – 5 gram full size product – £12.99 for full size

Another product to add to an ever growing pile of cheek and lip stains (do you see a theme here?). I’m glad I ended up with Coral from the range as it’s one of my favourite go to colours besides red. The consistency of this is quite nice for applying to lips but I found after swatching it wasn’t so great for blending, thus I’m not sure I’d be brave enough to try this out on my cheeks when I have so many other’s (the balm’s palette for one) to use. One thing worth mentioning here though is it does contain bees wax. I’m actually Okay with this, providing it’s sourced ethically. I know there are a lot of Vegan’s who are high and mighty about products from bee’s such as wax and honey, but a lot of bee keepers really nurture their bees and are at least doing their bit to preserve a species on the brink of disappearing and I fully thrive off bee’s, I think they are absolutely beautiful. That aside, I’m sure I’ll put this to good use once Summer come’s round and I lay my moody, dark red’s to rest until the following Winter.

gb-dec-14-allthatjazz

all that jazz nail varnish in “Sofie’s – I own the runway” – 15ml full size product – £9.95 for full size

Now this is a brand that I have seen around but have never really been that interested in. The packaging is pretty underwhelming when you compare it to me current fav’s such as Ciate and Nails inc and I now have such a vast collection of varnish that I find it hard to get super excited about them. Having said that, the glittery purple hue of the bottle made for a promising colour so I was pleasantly surprised when I swatched it and there was not a purple spec in sight. This is actually shimmer green and definitely not purple which is fine by me because I lack a variety of green’s in my collection and it is absolutely perfect for the festive period. I don’t think I would spend £9.95 on this, but I probably wouldn’t spend that on any brand of varnish, but it’s welcome upon my nail varnish rack and I vow to use this at least once before the end of the year.

So that concludes the Glossybox Christmas box. I’m not ashamed to say that I was disapointed by the contents of this month’s box. I’ve held onto my subscription hoping they would win back my love with this box but it just doesn’t do it for me. So much so that I’ve cancelled my subscription (again!) and have promised myself to use the £13 I’ll be saving a month to buy a product that I actually want. If you do like what you see though, you can subscribe to Glossybox for £10 a month plus postage and packaging via their website here.

What do you think of this month’s box? Are you a Glossybox subscriber or thinking of becoming one? I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments below.

Totally hellbent for finally breaking free of my first ever Beauty Box

glossybox-april-14-contents

Gem actually received her Glossybox yesterday, but mine ended up at the post office instead since I’d spent the morning at the gym and there was no one to open the door to the postman. On collecting it today though, I’m pretty pleased with the contents – even if I did sneak a peek at Gem’s yesterday.

Whats in the box?

glossybox-april-14-emite

Emite Make Up – Lip Brush – L312 (£17)

I’ve been thinking of buying a high end lip brush for a little while now so this has come at just the right time! The brush is also synthetic which means it’s safe for Gem and I to use. It’s slanted and a good size as well which will make application much easier than some of the smaller lip brushes I’ve used in the past. Well done to Glossybox for bring this one out of the bag (or should I say box?)

MONU Spa – Warming Ginger Massage & Body Oil – 30ml sample (£25 for 100ml)

I love receiving massage and body oil samples, not only can I convince the other half into giving me a lovely back rub, it’s also a step up from your “Ann Summers Love Oil” so it’s great for your skin! This oil smells absolutely gorgeous and I’m a big fan of ginger at the moment. If this is anything like their other products, I’m sure I’ll be hooked.

MeMeMe Cosmetics – Beat the blues Pearl Pink – Full size product receied (£5.50 for 12ml)

This looks similar to Benefit’s High Beam which is a huge essential in my everyday (and not so everyday) make-up regime. In terms of application, it looks quite nice with a subtle highlight, whereas the Benefit High Beam has more of a shimmer. I quite like the end result of this for a more toned down look, the only thing I don’t like is the brush applicator it comes with – it’s quite hard and I can imagine using it on my face will irritate me a little. Not to worry though, that’s what fingers are for right? I’m definitely going to get some use out of this, especially since it will prolong the longevity of my Benefit High Beam!

TRESemmé – Instant Refresh Cleansing Dry Shampoo – 100ml sample (£4.99 for 200ml)

I do enjoy a good dry Shampoo – since I try to avoid washing my hair more than once a week to keep my colour for longer, I’m often reaching for one of these to refresh my locks mid-wash. I’ve not tried the TRESemmé one before so this is a welcome treat. It smells quite fruity and applies like most dry shampoos. It seems a little pricey at £4.99 for the full 200ml can, but time will tell whether I like this enough to buy it over my current cheaper Superdrug own brand or Batiste.

glossybox-april-14-sun-sense

SunSense UK – Daily Face SPF 50+ – 10g sample (£20.99 for 75g)

Gem was incredible annoyed when she found out I got this in my box. She ended up with some awful tanning product which I was also expecting, but was pleasantly surprised when I received this treat. It’s slightly tinted and has SPF 50+ which is perfect! Gem and I are always on the look out for face products with a high SPF and I know this is going to be just perfect for festival season. Unfortunately the tube has one of those annoying “tabs” instead of an actual cap, so I haven’t opened it, but come the festival season, I’ll be decanting this into one of my many many empties and hoping it helps me avoid the usually inevitable “dreaded-orange-face” over the summer – as well as protecting me from the Sun of course. If it passes the test of the holy Wacken lands at it’s hottest, I’ll definitely be purchasing some more.

Extra Treat!

Like Gemma, it seems I too have been subscribing to Glossybox for over a year, I received this cute Green & Blacks Dark Chocolate as a thank you. I’m no stranger to these mini chocolate bars since Birchbox often dish them out and I think they are most splendid! Just enough chocolate to satisfy your taste buds with minimal feelings of guilt – perfect.

If you want to get your hands on a Glossybox, you can subscribe here for just for £10 (+ P&P) per month.

Totally hellbent for SPF 50+ samples!

Latest in beauty samples

September 3, 2013

lib samples boxSo far I’ve done a really good job of resisting the Latest in Beauty little beauty boxes. Unfortunately, when it comes to having shiny things pushed through the letter box, resistance is futile.

This is my first and probably not my last, but my main reason for indulging was the Amie face mask. I keep seeing this brand everywhere, and I think it’s only right that I give something that has the same name as me a whirl! Plus it’s not often I see other people spelling my name correctly.

I now have the following to look forward to:

  • Aveda invati solutions for thinning hair – Shampoo & Conditioner
  • TRESemmé split mend – Shampoo, Conditioner & leave in treatment
  • Amie cooling clay mask

More updates on the Amie mask when I try this out!

The little beauty box can be purchased for a lovely £1.50 that is added onto your phone bill. You get a choice of three products, my Aveda product was a “mystery sample” since I like to live on the edge a little.

Totally hellbent for products that have my name on it!

August 2013 Glossybox

August 13, 2013

As well as free things, I also came back to Augusts Glossybox upon the return from Bloodstock. It certainly turned a very glum Pants into a very excitable and distracted one! There is something about this box that makes me feel as though it’s Christmas again. Even though everyone else gets the same packaging, it makes me feel as though this was packaged and wrapped just for me.

So enough with the jabbering and on with the contents you say? Well alright then:

augglossyboxaugglossybox2augglossybox3This month brought me the following:

  • Oceane makeup remover pen (with extra tips)
  • Jelly Pong Pong 2-in-1 shadow liner (I had the grey/green like colour)
  • TRESemme Concentrated rinse off treatment (perfect for post festival hair disasters)
  • Emite Eyelash Curler (I’ve been thinking about buying some curlers for a while now)
  • Olay regenerist 3 point treatment cream (can never have enough cream to help with fine lines and sagging right?)

Needless to say, I am more than excited at trying the Jelly Pong Pong after I fell in love with their fairy lashes mascara. Now I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of other beauty boxes to satisfy my addiction for new products and kill the inevitable festival blues.

Totally hellbent for post festival cheer ups
